You have tried. You have really tried.
You have watched videos, read books, attended classes, maybe hired a trainer already. And still, every walk is a battle. Every knock at the door sends the whole household into chaos. Every visit to the vet is something you dread for days in advance.
You love your dog. That has never been in question. But if you’re honest, there are days when you wonder whether things will ever actually change.
Lady’s K9 Academy offers structured training programmes at three levels, each designed to match the complexity of the case and what your dog actually needs. All programmes include a personalised assessment, a bespoke training plan, ongoing support between sessions, and direct access to your trainer throughout.
The entry point for dogs with manageable behavioural challenges who need a clear framework and consistent handling. Sessions are spaced to give you and your dog time to put the work into practice between appointments, with WhatsApp support and access to training resources throughout.
Behaviour Programme For dogs with more established behavioural challenges. A full bespoke plan, regular sessions with your trainer, ongoing support, and check-ins to track and adapt progress as you go. The right choice when the problem has been there a while and needs a proper structured approach to unpick it.
For the complex cases. The full weight of the Lady's K9 team behind you, with the option for group walk integration once appropriate, and a plan that doesn't stop when the sessions do. Built for dogs whose owners have tried everything else and need real, lasting change.
It is not just the walks. It is the way you plan your whole day around avoiding certain routes, certain times, certain triggers. The way you scan every street before you leave. The way you apologise constantly to strangers and then feel angry at yourself for apologising.
It is the isolation. The cancelled plans. The friends and family who stopped offering to look after your dog because they didn’t know how to handle them.
It is watching other people walk their dogs without a second thought and wondering what you did wrong.
You didn’t do anything wrong. You are dealing with a dog whose needs were never properly understood or addressed. That is not a failure of love. It is a gap in knowledge and support. And it is fixable.
Lady’s K9 Academy’s training programmes are not designed for the straightforward cases. They are designed for the dogs that other trainers struggle with, turn down, or run generic programmes at without ever really addressing the actual problem.
Every dog we work with gets a training plan built around them specifically. Their breed. Their history. Their triggers. Their household. Their owner’s life. Not a template dropped onto a situation it was never shaped to fit.
The approach is balanced, science-based, and grounded in years of real-world experience with high drive, reactive, and complex dogs. We use what works for your dog, which sometimes includes positive reinforcement only and sometimes includes the kind of clear boundaries and structured pressure that certain dogs genuinely need to feel secure.
We will always be honest with you about which applies to your dog and why.
Joanna Emslie founded Lady’s K9 Academy after years of working alongside military working dogs as a reservist, time spent in the military working dog rehoming sector, and the deeply personal experience of rehabilitating Lady, a former military dog with severe behavioural challenges who most professionals refused to work with.
Gemma Knott, Lady’s K9 Academy’s lead trainer, brings a BSc in animal behaviour, professional experience at the Waltham Petcare Science Institute, specialist credentials in assistance dog standards through Assistance Dogs International, and a current IMDT Level 4 qualification in complex behaviour modification. She works primarily with the Puppy Programme and with clients whose dogs need a structured, data-driven approach.
Donna Jarvis brings over a decade of specialist experience with high drive breeds, five years working with military working dogs, a BSc in Animal Behaviour and Welfare, an Advanced Canine Behaviour Diploma, and three dogs that compete successfully at Crufts. Donna handles the cases that require the deepest level of specialist input.
This is not a generic dog training service. The team behind it is built for the complexity that most services walk away from.
EXCELLENT Based on 13 reviews Posted on MariaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We ve rescued a few dogs over the years, but our last rescue presented with reactivity towards other dogs, cars, new situations etc. I knew i couldn't overcome this on my own so turned to the ladies at ladies K9 academy. Gemma has been brilliant. Her knowledge and understanding has helped Olive and I overcome lots of different challenges. She took the time to visit us in our home and out on walks to show us different ways to help support olive with her reactive moments. It definately hasn't been easy or a quick fix. It takes patience but with all of Gemmas support we are in a much better place 6 months down the line. We enjoy our walks much more now and Olive is starting to disengage with other dogs rather than bark at them. Gemma always very good at replying back to messages too ! Thank you !Posted on Deborah BirdTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I would thoroughly recommend Lady’s K9 Academy. Jo has looked after our Labradors on a number of occasions, taking care of them for daily walks and during holidays. She keeps us up to date with them by sending regular videos of their various walks. She is incredibly attentive and professional and our dogs absolutely love her.Posted on Joe CampenTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Jo at Lady's K9 Academy gets my 5 massive gold stars!🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟! She has been walking my big baby for around 2 years now, she understands how precious he is & accommodates my over protectiveness, he's a handful & very strong on walks which she is more than capable of handling! She treats him like her own & loves him as such with kisses & cuddles a plenty. I trust her in my home to care for him which is massive for me & she puts my mind at rest with lots of pupdates, videos & photos allowing me to relax & enjoy the breaks we so often need. She is professional in her approach to the business but has that balanced with her love for the animals she cares for, cant recommend her highly enough! ❤️🐾❤️Posted on Kate VoyceTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Experienced and caring dog professionals. Nella loves her walks with K9. She is learning to socialise with other dogs under the careful supervision of K9 staff. They are reliable, friendly and supportive of Nella’s needs.Posted on Georgia HaslamTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Looking after our GSD so well – can’t recommend enough! They provide 1-to-1 walks, which is perfect as she isn’t great with all dogs. Our dog absolutely loves Jo! They go on a variety of walks and adventures, and it’s such a lovely touch that they visit places like Belvoir Castle and even bring back a postcard. Amazing service – can’t recommend highly enough!Posted on Kara RadfordTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Posting on behalf of my father in law, Trevor Makins. Jo is just wonderful. She has been a lifeline to me at a very difficult time having suddenly lost my wife. She was so welcoming & approachable & has shown nothing but true kindness to me & my two dogs. She regularly has both dogs for walks & now occasional cares for them as home stays whilst I take short trips away. I’m not sure what I would have done without her. Thank you very much, you’re just smashing! Trevor Makins Aggy & Kirby 🐾Posted on Nikki EyreTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I’ve been using Lady’s K9 for a couple of months now and I’m so pleased with the service. I have a 5 year old Rotti, Roxy, who can be a bit of a handful at times. Looking for a dog walker was a huge decision for me, I wanted someone with knowledge and experience of large powerful dogs, someone who would continue with the training, not someone just attached to the other end of the lead. Jo came for a meet and greet and I was instantly put at easy, she asked all the right questions and was very good with Roxy. We chatted about her needs and behaviours. Jo always lets me know how their walks have been and any concerns she has. I’m so pleased Roxy and I found her.Posted on Chronically MeltonMowbrayTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Ralph always comes home happy, relaxed, and full of energy after his walks with Lady’s Canine Academy!! 🐶💖✨ He absolutely loves his time there 🐾🎉 and it’s such a comfort knowing he’s genuinely well cared for, safe, and having the best time ever 🦴🥰 I have complete confidence leaving him in their care and couldn’t recommend them highly enough to friends and family!! ⭐👏🐕💕Posted on Tammie KingTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Jo is an experienced & trustworthy dog walker/trainer/sitter, as well as being a kind, caring and considerate person! We had been on the lookout for a while for someone who we could trust with our two large, high drive Dobermanns. Soon after meeting Jo, and learning about her experience, I knew she was someone who’d be our “go to” dog walker/sitter. Jo goes above and beyond when taking care of the dogs in her care and they love her for it! We are so glad we found Jo. I was told by two separate trainers to consider rehoming him. Joanna never gave up on him. Not once.
The difference in eight weeks was something I genuinely didn't believe was possible. We can go anywhere now.
For the first time in three years I stopped dreading walks. That sounds small. It isn't small.
Jo understood my dog immediately. She didn't just give me techniques. She helped me understand why he was doing what he was doing. Everything changed after that.
Gemma is extraordinary. She explained everything, supported us between sessions, and never made us feel like we were the problem.
Lady’s K9 Academy does not run an open-door training service. The level of support built into every programme is only possible because the client numbers are kept small. We take on a limited number of new training clients each month to make sure every dog gets the attention their case actually requires.
If you are considering getting in touch, do not put it off. Waiting lists form and the next available space is often weeks away.
